As you may remember I began doing a Jane Fonda strengthening and stretching exercise DVD in January after I retired. Then, when I visited my heart doctor in early May he suggested I add some cardio to the plan. So, I added a low-impact aerobic Jane Fonda DVD to my weekday routine. In addition, most Tuesday evenings I participate in my daughter-in-law’s free Yoga class at church. All of these programs have been very compatible, and I’ve noticed much improvement in my strength and endurance. In addition I wear a pedometer and track my steps every day, with a goal of 10,000 per day, though my average is not that high. (I’ve worn a pedometer for years and participated in several walking contests at my former workplace.)
For several years community anticipation grew as a cooperative effort between the YMCA, City of Indianola, Simpson College and Indianola Schools gelled and set into motion. Construction began and we watched the brick and mortar process for over a year. Finally, the grand opening was announced! Dave and I were among the thousands of people who toured during the Open House. It is a very impressive facility, but during all this time I never dreamed that Dave would think we could join. Once Dave saw the facility, he agreed that we could give it a try. I didn’t waste any time joining and getting started.
I quickly began participating in some of the morning classes–a wonderful benefit of being retired! On most Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, at 8:30 a.m. I am taking a 45-minute AOA (Active Older Adult) class and five days (Monday thru Friday) I am taking a 45-minute water class at 9:30 a.m. I know this is a pretty aggressive program, in addition to continuing my DVD exercise program, but I’m really enjoying it.
Wellness is a priority.
