A board-certified genealogist from March 2009 to March 2014, I am the family history researcher, analyst, and writer for Grissom, Pehrson and Associates, the business I created for my ProGen class.
In reality, I do not have a business and do not take clients, but I am a researcher, analyst and writer. As indicated in my alias company name, I dig into the Grissom and Pehrson surnames, as well as the branches of those ancestral trees back toward the roots.
The PURPOSE of this blog is to chronicle my retirement journey: my struggle to make sense out of chaos with all of the family history my husband and I inherited. I will also be writing about my research activities, my analysis and evaluation of evidence I find, and my attempt to write and share my findings with family and perhaps others.
FAMILY BACKGROUND: I grew up two miles from the family farm which was purchased by my great-great-grandfather in 1856. Many members of my family were pioneer settlers of Warren County, Iowa, with the earliest ones arriving in 1848. Another branch of my family settled in Lee County in 1840 before statehood when the area was part of the Iowa Territory. I can count a New England forefather who fought in the Revolutionary War and wintered with Washington at Valley Forge. Another ancestral family was among the original settlers of Nantucket Island. Yet another family migrated from Sweden in the 1870s.
One branch of my husband’s family came out of Virginia into Kentucky on their migration westward and another branch has French roots.

“CG” and “Certified Genealogist” are service marks of the Board for Certification of Genealogists® used by authorized associates following periodic, peer-reviewed competency evaluations. Though my certificate No. 990, expired 12 March 2014, I strongly encourage interested persons to pursue the goal of certification. I learned more than I ever dreamed possible about genealogy in this endeavor and I believe that the entire genealogy field is strengthened as people pursue credentials.
